Qatar Grand Prix History – A Star is Born in the Desert
The Qatar Grand Prix made its thrilling debut in 2021, introducing a new spectacle to the F1 world. What started as a substitute for a canceled race swiftly turned into one of the most engaging night events on the calendar!
In the beginning of 2021, there were 23 races in that F1 season, with Australia kicking things off. Due to pandemic constraints, the Qatar GP replaced Australia’s, and then offcially joined the calendar. On 21 November 2021, the inaugural Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix took place at the Lusail International Circuit, officially putting Qatar on the motorsport map.

After the success of the event, Formula 1 signed a 10-year contract with Qatar, assuring its engagement in the sport until at least 2033. The event was skipped in 2022 due to the FIFA World Cup. However it returned powerfully in 2023 with ample new upgrades and a new fan experience.
Lights, Speed, Action: The Unique Appeal of Lusail
The Qatar Grand Prix is also the 4th full night race in the F1 calendar with Singapore, Bahrin and Sakhir. The gripping atmosphere of Lusail features the only fully night race, where the Lusail night racing experience is like no other. The Circuits’s illumination system is advanced and can transform the desert into a vibrant spectacle of speed and strategy.
The Lusail International Circuit which built in 2004 for MotoGP has a 5.419Km track. There are 16 corners that are fluid in motion, along with a long straight that offers ample opportunitites for overtaking. Additionally, the combination of the circumstanves of the desert along with the race offers drama, precison and top of the line racing.
