In its early days, the tournament was known by several names—from the Williams and Target World Challenges to the Chevron and Northwestern Mutual editions. Despite the evolving sponsorships, its core remained intact: excellence in golf tied to education and community. The inaugural event saw Tom Lehman secure the title, while Davis Love III claimed victory in December of the same year. The tournament’s stature and roster would only grow from there.
